Superstitions shape pre-final arrangements for Indian cricket team

Ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup final against New Zealand, the Indian cricket team reportedly changed its hotel in Ahmedabad, according to Indian media, citing superstition and past defeats as the reason.

The team avoided staying at the hotel where it lodged during the 2023 World Cup final, in which India lost to Australia, and during the Super 8 match against South Africa. The decision is believed to be influenced by attempts to alter “luck” and avoid repeating prior disappointments.

Reports indicate that a senior member of India’s support staff offers prayers at every venue for the team’s success. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been providing all possible facilities to ensure optimal conditions for the team.

Ahead of the semi-final in Mumbai, the team reportedly delayed a training session by 45 minutes to avoid the effects of a lunar eclipse. However, official confirmation regarding the hotel change has not been released.

Indian media suggest that the Ahmedabad venue is considered “unlucky” due to prior defeats, and the team may further modify its arrangements, including potentially using the guest dressing room instead of the home team’s room, to influence outcomes.

The ICC T20 World Cup final between India and New Zealand is scheduled to be played tomorrow in Ahmedabad, with the Indian team hoping its adjustments and preparations will improve its chances of victory.
