Weekly inflation rises 0.37pc during second ten days of Ramazan

Inflation continued to rise across the country during the second ten days of Ramazan, with weekly inflation increasing by 0.37 percent while the annual inflation rate stood at 4.70 percent.

According to the latest weekly report released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, prices of 13 essential commodities increased during the week, while 11 items recorded a decline and 27 commodities remained stable.

The report showed that prices of eggs increased by 8.13 percent, tomatoes by 10.04 percent, potatoes by 5.09 percent and onions by 6.08 percent during the week.

On the other hand, prices of several items declined, including moong pulse by 0.43 percent, gram pulse by 0.50 percent, cooking oil by 0.37 percent and wheat flour by 2.40 percent.

Among the items that recorded price increases were chicken, which surged by 10.46 percent, garlic by 1.23 percent, gur by 0.30 percent, mutton by 0.65 percent and beef by 0.66 percent. Similarly, prices of mash pulse rose by 0.51 percent, printed lawn cloth by 0.43 percent, mustard oil by 0.24 percent, petrol by 3.06 percent, diesel by 1.84 percent and LPG by 5.61 percent, while banana prices increased by 3.85 percent.

The Sensitive Price Indicator data further showed that on an annual basis, inflation for the income group earning up to Rs17,732 per month remained unchanged at 4.57 percent compared to the previous week.

For households earning between Rs17,733 and Rs22,888 per month, inflation increased by 0.09 percent to 5.95 percent.

Similarly, for the income group earning between Rs22,889 and Rs29,517 per month, inflation rose by 0.16 percent to 4.91 percent, while for those earning between Rs29,518 and Rs44,175 per month it increased by 0.26 percent to 4.16 percent.

For households earning above Rs44,176 per month, inflation increased by 0.53 percent to reach 3.58 percent, according to the data.
