Pakistan, D-8 officials discuss media cooperation, fake news, cultural ties

Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar met with Ambassador Asyaka Abdul Qadir Imam, Secretary-General of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, to discuss enhanced collaboration, particularly in the media sector, combating fake news, and promoting cultural exchanges among member countries.

During the meeting, Minister Tarar emphasized that fake news is one of the world’s biggest challenges, stressing the need for an effective fact-checking system on social media platforms. He highlighted that coordinated strategies are essential to ensure accurate information reaches the public.

The discussion also focused on strengthening cultural ties among D-8 countries. Minister Tarar noted that cultural cooperation could promote regional harmony and project a positive image internationally. He said that leveraging culture, communication, and technology can bring the people of D-8 nations closer together.

“I look forward to contributing actively to achieving D-8 goals under the guidance and experience of the Secretary-General,” Tarar added.

Ambassador Imam underscored that the success of D-8 countries depends on mutual support in each other’s development. He stressed the importance of learning from each other’s media experiences and organizing joint trainings and workshops to enhance expertise across the region.
