Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon formally inaugurated the Pink Buses service on the Green Line track at Numaish Chaurangi in Karachi. The initiative introduces buses specifically for women passengers, marking the first such service on a BRT corridor in Pakistan.
Speaking at the launch, Memon said the response to the Pink Buses has been positive and that a similar service will soon be introduced on the Orange Line. He added that a fixed ratio will be maintained to ensure dedicated buses for women across all services, including electric buses.
The minister also hinted at upcoming developments in the transport sector, including the introduction of double-decker buses on Shahrah-e-Faisal, describing more “good news” for the Department of Transport in the coming days.
On a separate note, Memon defended the 27th Constitutional Amendment, saying that despite criticism, the amendment provides equal representation to all provinces in constitutional courts and does not undermine parliamentary authority.
