State department responds to former President Arif Alvi’s residence petition

1 min read

The State Department has submitted its response in the Sindh High Court regarding former President Dr. Arif Alvi’s request for a government residence, officials said on Monday.

In its reply, the Ministry of Interior stated that the Bath Island bungalow, initially allocated to a customs officer, was assigned as a federal government officer residence. The matter is currently under judicial review, and due to an existing court injunction, the authorities are unable to take any action regarding the bungalow.

The State Department assured the court that it would follow all instructions and directives issued by the judiciary. Officials added that the petition should be decided according to law.

Dr. Alvi’s lawyer, Barrister Ali Tahir, argued that as a former president, Dr. Alvi is entitled to a government residence. He requested that the Bath Island bungalow be vacated and handed over to his client.

The Sindh High Court granted time for the petitioner to file a reply and adjourned the case indefinitely.
