The Azad Kashmir Assembly will convene on Monday for a vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq. The motion has been tabled by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
PPP has claimed the support of over 35 votes for Faisal Rathore as the new Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir. Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced it would boycott the in-house change, with PTI President Abdul Qayyum Niazi questioning how a government formed with the support of 14 defectors could be considered democratic.
Sardar Hassan Ibrahim, a PPP member of the Azad Kashmir Assembly, has declared he will remain neutral during the voting process.
Sources indicate that Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq is prepared to face the motion and respond to the assembly.
Separately, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met with Faisal Rathore, the party’s nominee for Azad Kashmir Prime Minister, at Zardari House in Islamabad. Bilawal emphasized Rathore’s responsibility to address the region’s public issues and encouraged greater engagement with local communities to stay informed about their concerns. —Internews
