ATC Islamabad issues notices on Matiullah Jan’s acquittal plea

1 min read

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad on Saturday issued notices on a plea filed by senior journalist Matiullah Jan seeking acquittal in a case related to alleged snatching of drugs and weapons.

The case was heard by ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Supra, who took up Jan’s application requesting his acquittal. During the proceedings, the judge observed that the defence had the right to move such a petition and invited arguments on the plea.

A junior defence counsel informed the court that lead lawyer Mian Ali Ashfaq would present arguments on the application. He added, however, that Ashfaq was occupied with hearings at the Lahore ATC on the same day.

Judge Supra directed the prosecution to examine the acquittal plea and prepare their arguments. Subsequently, the court issued notices and adjourned further proceedings.

The next date of hearing will be announced by the court office following the issuance of notices.
