Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has indicated that the wave of judicial resignations is likely to continue, with more judges expected to step down, describing some judges as biased and serving the interests of a single party.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, Malik Ahmad Khan said, “These judges were like political parties; their justice was only for one party, and their punishments were also only for one party.” He added that the resignations are not over yet and criticized decisions like those of Omar Atta Bandial as biased.
The speaker emphasized that the right to legislation and judicial appointments rests with Parliament, adding that past attempts by political parties to manipulate the judiciary had undermined the constitution. He stated, “Parliament grants birth to judges, and globally, judicial appointments are carried out transparently. Yet, political maneuvering around the 27th constitutional amendment is ongoing, with some judges effectively rewriting the constitution through interpretation.”
Earlier, Malik Ahmad Khan addressed the convocation of Allama Iqbal Medical College, praising the institution’s historic significance and congratulating graduates and their families. He highlighted that graduates from the college have made notable contributions across various fields and commended their achievements.
The speaker underscored the importance of research in healthcare, noting that modern times require investment in medical innovation over traditional treatment methods. He also lauded Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for extending healthcare services to rural areas, particularly her efforts in treating serious illnesses like cancer, calling these initiatives exemplary for society.
