An Indian Sikh woman visiting Pakistan for Baba Guru Nanak’s birthday celebrations has converted to Islam and married a Pakistani citizen, officials confirmed.
The woman, formerly Sarbjit Kaur, adopted the Islamic name Noor. According to the marriage certificate, the 48-year-old tied the knot on November 5 with Nasir Hussain, a resident of Farooqabad in Sheikhupura district. The marriage contract (Nikah) recorded a mahr of Rs 10,000, which has already been paid.
Sarbjit Kaur had entered Pakistan on November 4 as part of a group of Indian pilgrims. However, when the group returned to India on November 13, she was not among them, and her visa had expired the same day. Authorities initially reported her missing and began a search.
It was later confirmed that she had embraced Islam and married a Pakistani man, ending the search.
