Any deliberate assault on UN personnel unacceptable: China

1 min read

China strongly condemned the recent attack on United Nations peacekeepers in Lebanon, calling any deliberate assault on UN personnel “absolutely unacceptable” and demanding it cease immediately.

At a regular briefing on Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun expressed Beijing’s deep sympathy for those injured in the incident. He said such attacks constitute a serious violation of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

“Any deliberate attack against UN peacekeeping personnel amounts to a grave violation of international humanitarian law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701. The attack is unacceptable and must stop at once,” Guo said.

He further urged all relevant parties to take immediate steps to de-escalate tensions and ensure the safety of UN peacekeepers operating in Lebanon under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mandate.

China’s statement comes amid growing international concern over the security of UN personnel in conflict zones, reinforcing Beijing’s call for adherence to international norms and protection of peacekeeping staff.
