Punjab to establish anti-drone units in all districts

2 min read

In a major move to strengthen security and maintain law and order, the government of Punjab has decided to establish anti-drone units in all districts of the province for the first time in the country’s history.

According to official sources, the anti-drone units will conduct aerial surveillance with the help of special drone fleets to monitor activities across districts. Each district will also be equipped with an advanced anti-drone system.

The units will operate under the supervision of the respective District Police Officers (DPOs), who will oversee the functioning of both the anti-drone units and the anti-drone systems.

Officials said the anti-drone systems will use jamming technology to disable hostile or suspicious drones operated by miscreants or hostile elements.

The initiative aims to enhance the operational capacity of the police for aerial monitoring and public safety, in line with modern counter-terrorism requirements and efforts to maintain a secure environment.

Authorities added that surveillance drones and anti-drone systems will be provided to districts according to their specific security needs.

Meanwhile, Section 144 is already in force across Punjab, banning the outdoor use of drones by the public due to security concerns. However, law enforcement and intelligence agencies are exempt from the restriction.

Citizens have been urged to strictly comply with the ban on drone operations, as ensuring public safety, maintaining law and order, and protecting property remain top priorities of the provincial government.
