In view of rising global geopolitical tensions, the government is considering changes to the mechanism for determining prices of petroleum products, official sources said.
According to a private television report citing sources, new proposals have been prepared to make the existing fuel price review system more effective in response to current international developments.
Sources said the Ministry of Energy has prepared detailed working papers on the matter and has briefed the Prime Minister accordingly.
Under the proposed plan, the government is considering shifting from the current 15-day price review cycle to a weekly adjustment system for petrol and diesel. The aim is to align domestic prices more quickly with fluctuations in the global market.
Officials said a final decision will be taken by the Prime Minister after consultations with the economic team.
If global tensions persist, authorities are expected to move swiftly on the proposed policy to ensure better synchronization between local fuel prices and international trends.
Separately, the government has strengthened monitoring mechanisms to prevent any artificial shortage or hoarding of petroleum products. Relevant departments have been instructed to closely monitor fuel supply and stock levels to curb profiteering and ensure market stability.
