Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired an important in-camera meeting of parliamentary leaders and representatives of political parties to discuss the evolving regional situation and Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement.
Participants were given a detailed briefing on developments concerning Pakistan-Afghanistan relations, tensions involving Iran, and the broader security environment in the Middle East and Gulf region. The prime minister apprised the forum of ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and safeguarding Pakistan’s national interests.
Leaders of various parliamentary parties expressed their views openly during the session and underscored the need for national unity and cohesion in the prevailing circumstances.
They appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach for regional peace and emphasized the importance of further intensifying such efforts. Suggestions were also presented regarding the future course of action.
The participants reaffirmed their resolve to eliminate terrorism from the country and commended the prime minister for taking political leadership into confidence on matters of national importance.
The meeting was attended by Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Senate Chairman Syedal Khan, Deputy Speaker National Assembly Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
Also present were Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and several federal ministers, including Ahsan Iqbal, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Attaullah Tarar and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry.
Representatives of other political parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League (N), Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Balochistan Awami Party, National Party and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party also attended the meeting.
The forum concluded with a collective resolve to maintain political consensus on key national security and foreign policy matters amid the rapidly changing regional landscape.
