In a significant step towards modernizing its mineral exploration framework, the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Canada-based Axiom Group to utilize advanced satellite and geospatial technologies for identifying mineral and natural resources in Punjab.
According to a spokesperson for PBIT, the MoU was signed in Toronto between PBIT Chairman Muhammad Muntaha Ashraf and Axiom Group President and CEO Doug Engdahl.
The agreement aims to introduce cutting-edge satellite data applications, remote sensing, and geospatial analytical methods to enhance mineral exploration across the province.
Under the agreement, satellite-derived data will be converted into actionable intelligence to help identify mineral reserves and improve planning and resource management. Officials said the collaboration would enable more accurate mapping of mineral-rich zones and support evidence-based decision-making in the sector.
The spokesperson described the initiative as a landmark partnership between the public sector and modern technology platforms, adding that it would strengthen Punjab’s capacity to tap its untapped natural wealth through data-driven strategies.
Speaking on the occasion, PBIT Chairman Muhammad Muntaha Ashraf said the Punjab government, in line with the chief minister’s vision, was determined to align the mineral sector with modern technological advancements to unlock new avenues of economic growth. He noted that international partnerships would play a pivotal role in boosting investment, improving transparency, and accelerating sustainable development in the province’s mineral industry.
Officials believe the collaboration could pave the way for increased foreign investment and improved exploration efficiency, positioning Punjab as a competitive destination for mineral development in the region.
