Police kill suspect wanted in child abduction cases in Rawalpindi encounter

2 min read

Police in Rawalpindi shot dead a suspect during a late-night encounter in Ratta Amral, authorities said. Three suspects opened fire on a police party, resulting in the death of one suspect and injuries to a police officer. Two other suspects managed to escape.

The deceased was identified as Muhammad Abbas, who was wanted by Ratta Amral police in a child abduction case. Abbas reportedly had a record of child abduction and sexual assault cases in Rawalpindi and Lahore, and authorities say there are reports of multiple unreported incidents involving minors.

According to the police, officers conducted a raid after receiving information about Abbas’s presence. The suspects opened fire, during which Sub-Inspector Muhammad Owais was hit but remained unharmed thanks to his bulletproof vest. The injured suspect was taken to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

Senior police officials, including the CPO Rawalpindi Syed Khalid Hamdani, arrived at the scene. A search operation is underway to apprehend the two remaining suspects. Authorities commended the bravery of Ratta Amral police, the SP City, and the SDPO for their courageous response.

“Those who attack police or endanger citizens cannot escape the law,” the Rawalpindi Police said.
