Pakistan has taken a major step toward enhancing its digital connectivity with the deployment of the SeaMeWe-6 (SMW-6) submarine cable, officials said on Saturday. The project underscores the government’s commitment to linking the country with the global digital economy.
The SMW-6 cable, managed by Transworld, has reached the shores of Hawks Bay, Karachi. Stretching 21,700 kilometers, the cable connects Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Western Europe, with Pakistan serving as one of its key landing points. The cable runs from Singapore to France, enabling faster and more reliable internet connectivity across multiple regions.
This marks Transworld’s fourth submarine cable in Pakistan, following previous deployments in 2005, 2015, and 2024. The SMW-6 consortium consists of 16 major companies, and the new cable is expected to significantly improve Pakistan’s internet speed and digital infrastructure.
Officials highlighted that the SMW-6 cable will strengthen Pakistan’s position in the global digital network, improve online services, and support economic growth through enhanced connectivity.
