High-Level committee approved for Pakistan-Hosted South Asian Games

Pakistan has made significant progress in preparations for hosting the South Asian Games next January, with the government approving a high-level committee to oversee the event, officials said.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has given the nod for the committee, which will be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. The committee is scheduled to hold its first meeting on Monday in Islamabad.

According to sources, the meeting will review the current plans for the games, including sports infrastructure, security arrangements, and budget allocations. The committee will finalize its recommendations for the successful organization of the event.

The panel includes federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Rana Sanaullah, Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, as well as Pakistan Olympic Association President Arif Saeed and Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan.

Representatives from defense institutions, provincial chief ministers, and federal secretaries of Inter-Provincial Coordination, Finance, and Interior will also be part of the committee.

Pakistan is set to host the South Asian Games from January 23 to 31, 2026, marking a major milestone in regional sports collaboration.
