The Prosecutor General of Punjab has proposed that educational institutions verify potential and current employees against the sex offenders registry to ensure the safety of children.
According to sources, the Prosecutor General sent a two-page memorandum to the Secretary Prosecution recommending that verification from the NADRA Sex Offenders Register be made mandatory for all school recruitments.
The memorandum stated that the current recruitment system has a significant gap as standard background checks do not reveal prior sexual offenses. Employing individuals with a history of sexual crimes could pose serious risks to the entire institution.
The Prosecutor General urged the Law and Justice Department to establish a mechanism to access the sex offenders registry and recommended that verification be applied not only to new hires but also to existing staff. He emphasized that this policy would strengthen child protection measures across educational institutions.
