Police have re-arrested former ADC R C Sialkot, Iqbal Singhera, who had escaped police custody during a transfer from Rawalpindi to Lahore in a corruption case.
According to police sources, a special Rawalpindi police team apprehended Singhera and is transferring him to Kot Lakhpat Jail.
Three separate teams were formed to track the suspect, all supervised by SP Central Division, Inam Sher Khan. Singhera had escaped custody on November 13 while being moved to Lahore.
Following the escape, four police officials were dismissed for negligence. Their mobile data has been seized to verify any contacts with suspects. The police also completed geo-fencing of the Chakri rest area, where Singhera fled.
The dismissed officers were previously sent to jail on judicial remand. Police have contacted excise departments in multiple districts to trace the vehicle used in the escape.
However, incomplete vehicle number details have made registration verification challenging.
A separate request has been sent to the National Highway Authority to determine which motorway toll plaza the suspect’s vehicle passed through.
Iqbal Singhera had been in custody after appearing in the Anti-Corruption Court in Rawalpindi.
The escape led to a case being registered against him, his brother, six unidentified accomplices, and four police officials.
