Pakistan has issued its first-ever bunkering license, marking the official launch of international-standard bunkering services at Karachi Port, Maritime Affairs Minister Mohammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced on Tuesday.
The minister said multiple international companies have expressed strong interest in acquiring bunkering licenses, signaling potential billions in revenue for Pakistan’s ports in the future.
Under the new service, ships calling at Karachi Port will have access to a fuel supply system meeting global standards, a development described as a significant milestone for the country’s maritime industry.
Junaid Anwar Chaudhry emphasized that the service was launched under special directives from the Prime Minister, and it will enhance Karachi Port’s regional competitiveness, attract more foreign shipping lines, and generate valuable foreign exchange.
The minister added that the bunkering operations adhere to global safety and operational standards, and the initiative is expected to create new employment opportunities in maritime logistics, supplies, and ship maintenance sectors. Strict compliance with fuel quality, documentation, and transparency standards has been ensured.
