Maryam Nawaz vows to eliminate crimes against children in Punjab

2 min read

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed her government’s commitment to eradicating crimes against children, declaring that such offences amount to an “act of rebellion against humanity.”

In her message on the World Day for the Prevention of and Healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence, the chief minister said protecting children is a moral and state responsibility. “Children are my red line. They are dear to me, and ensuring their safety is our duty,” she stated.

Maryam Nawaz labelled individuals involved in crimes against children as “a menace to society,” insisting they would be uprooted completely from Punjab. She highlighted the establishment of Pakistan’s first Virtual Centre for Child Safety, designed to enhance child protection through digital monitoring and swift response.

According to the chief minister, the integration of digital technology with improved governance has created a secure system for safeguarding both children and citizens. She added that the Virtual Child Safety Centre has already reunited thousands of missing children and elderly people with their families.

Maryam Nawaz urged the public to immediately contact the Virtual Child Safety Centre in any case of a missing child, stressing that early response can save lives.
