Former Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Revenue, Iqbal Singhera, escaped from police custody while being transferred from Rawalpindi to Lahore in connection with a corruption case, authorities confirmed on Sunday.
According to police sources, Singhera was being moved to appear before an anti-corruption court in Lahore when he managed to flee at the Chakri Motorway Rest Area. The escape reportedly involved Singhera’s brother, who, along with six unidentified accomplices, helped him evade custody.
Following the incident, the Rawalpindi police registered a case against four officers, including Assistant Sub-Inspector Zafar Iqbal, Constables Yasir, Ahmed Bilal, and Moharram Shehzad. The officers face charges under Section 155-C of the Police Order and Sections 223, 224, and 225 of the Pakistan Penal Code for failing to maintain custody of the accused.
Police confirmed that Singhera had previously been brought to court in Rawalpindi for an unrelated case three years ago. He reportedly excused himself to use the restroom at the service area, where his brother and accomplices facilitated his escape.
Authorities have launched a manhunt to recapture the former official, while investigations are ongoing into how the security lapse occurred.
