Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that no passenger involved in bringing disrepute to Pakistan will be allowed to travel abroad, stressing that the government will not tolerate any form of illegal immigration.
The interior minister, accompanied by Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain, paid an unannounced two-hour visit to Lahore Airport. During the inspection, Naqvi expressed strong displeasure over congestion and delays at immigration counters, directing staff to speed up the processing of passengers.
Both ministers interacted with outbound travelers to review the immigration procedure and assess passenger concerns. Salik Hussain also examined Protector stickers, which are mandatory for overseas employment.
During the visit, a youth travelling abroad for a driver’s job under the Protector system was stopped because he did not possess a valid driving licence. Salik Hussain took notice of the incident and ordered an immediate inquiry.
Officials also revealed that an FIA officer had allegedly attempted to facilitate a passenger’s illegal departure. The passenger was intercepted at the counter, off-loaded, and assured that the money he paid to a private company would be refunded.
Minister Naqvi summoned the immigration officers who stopped the two passengers, appreciated their action, and awarded them a cash reward from his own pocket. He also announced commendation certificates for them.
Naqvi reiterated that no traveler will be allowed to fly without complete and verified documents. He said strict action will be taken against any FIA or other officials found involved in illegal activities.
Overseas Pakistanis Minister Salik Hussain emphasized that all documents of passengers traveling under the Protector system must be thoroughly verified, particularly employment credentials.
