India’s cricket team suffered a major blow in the first Test against South Africa as captain Shubman Gill was hospitalized due to a neck injury, raising doubts over his participation for the remainder of the match.

According to Indian media reports, Gill left the field on the second day at Eden Gardens after scoring just 4 runs and was immediately transferred to a hospital. The injury occurred while attempting a sweep shot off South African spinner Simon Harmer, which reportedly caused severe strain in his neck.

Initial treatment in the dressing room included the application of a cervical collar as Gill experienced pain and restricted movement. Later on Saturday evening, he was seen being taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

Sources report that Gill is currently in the ICU under medical supervision, with additional tests planned to determine the severity of the injury. The team’s medical staff will decide on his treatment and potential return to the game based on these assessments.

This injury comes at a critical juncture as India faces a challenging South African bowling attack in Kolkata.
