Deadlock over PSL 11 schedule as PCB, franchises clash

2 min read

The 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is facing scheduling deadlock, with franchises and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) still unable to finalize match fixtures.

The tournament is set to be held in April and May next year, and the PCB has begun the process of selling two new franchises. However, agreement on the total number of matches remains unresolved. Initial proposals suggested between 44 and 60 matches, with franchises pushing for a higher number to boost revenue.

Franchises have also demanded that each team play at least 14 matches in the initial round, but PCB officials said limited scheduling windows make this difficult. Team owners suggested holding two matches each on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays to accommodate more games, but discussions are ongoing.

Additionally, no final decision has been made regarding the player draft or auction for the upcoming season.

The PCB is also struggling to fill the key position of Manager Partnerships & Players Acquisition following the resignation of Shoaib Khalid. A recent advertisement for the position closed yesterday, and officials are now reviewing applications. The role is considered crucial for liaising with foreign players and agents, and the PCB has also approached some former employees and officials associated with PSL franchises, though concerns over leaving their current positions have slowed appointments. A new official is expected to be appointed later this month.
