Pakistan has successfully completed its first robotic surgery in Islamabad, marking a milestone in the country’s medical history.
The surgery was conducted at PIMS Hospital using the advanced Tomaye surgical robot, with support from international experts from the United Kingdom. Local specialists, including Prof. Shamim Khan, Prof. Mateen Sharif, and Dr. Javed Burki, guided the procedure, while PIMS experts Dr. Atif Inam Shami, Dr. Burhan-ul-Haq, and Dr.
Khalid Saeed also participated.
Dr. Mateen Sharif, Director of Robotic Surgery at PIMS, told the media that robotic surgeries will make complex operations safer and more efficient. He explained that the Tomaye robot, developed in China, will be used to expand robotic surgery services across Pakistan.
Dr. Sharif added that the government is supporting the initiative, and the first robotic operation on a female patient was successful, with the patient expected to recover quickly.
